Thank you to everyone who came along to the CVC Summer Tournament, we hope you had a great time.

This year saw 53 teams from across the country descend on Cambridge Rugby Club for a weekend of volleyball fun.  We had many returning teams, some new teams and even two teams celebrating birthdays.

Saturday morning started out with bright sunshine and everyone eager to get on court.  Unfortunately the sunny start was not to last, for once the weather forecast was right, and by 11am the rain had arrived.  After a brief pause in play the rain passed and everyone headed back to the courts.  The returning sunshine was short lived though and within an hour the rain had returned, this time much heavier and accompanied by thunder and lighting.  By 3pm, after continuous torrential rain the tournament organizers made the decision to cancelled all scheduled play for the remainder of the day; the courts were dangerously wet and would take hours to dry out enough for play to resume safely.

All of the delays with the main 6-a-side tournament and the water logged courts meant that the pairs competition, normally run after the main tournament, had to be cancelled as well.

After a lively Pirates and Mermaids themed party on Saturday night, Sunday dawned bright and clear with no forecast of rain.  With the pools re-drawn and a new match schedule for the day, play got under way nice and early.  The matches were all very competitive, with some very close results.  Some of the divisions where very tight, with teams waiting tensely to find out if they had done enough to secure the win.

And the winners were …

2nd – Phoenix

3rd – Team Gios
