The 6v6 Tournament

The tournament is organised on a league basis and all teams will have games on both Saturday and Sunday.  Teams will play for the division prize on Sunday, involving either pool play or positional matches. Men’s, Mixed and Women’s divisions are offered (NVL/ Regional, County and Local/Social levels), although the organisers may re-allocate teams into different leagues based on available spaces.
o   Mixed teams must have three women on court at all times;  teams with missing players should recruit a full 6 from the spares pool.
o   All matches are played to FIVB rules and will be the best of three sets (unless otherwise stated in scoresheet), first two to 25 and the decider to 15 (capped to 25 and 17 respectively).
o   League points will be allocated to the winning team.
o   Results of Saturday’s pool play and details of the Sunday pools will be available when teams register on Sunday morning.
o   All teams will be allocated refereeing duties and need to provide a competent official.
o   Remember to bring your own volleyball and whistles!
o   Play will finish around 4pm each day, depending on your pool.

Spare players

If you are a spare player, please register on    before the tournament or let us know at the Registration desk and you will probably find a team for the weekend!

If you require a spare player at the weekend, please email us, we’ll put you in touch with each other.

The Pairs Competition

The 2v2 is a popular event, run as an additional competition for the players in the 6s tournament who are also interested in playing 2v2.  For that reason we only start registration once players have finished their 6v6 matches (weather permitted).  The earliest a 6v6 league could finish is probably around 3pm on Saturday but it may be later; pairs who only wish to play in the 2v2 should be ready to play from 3pm but games may not start at 3pm.  In other words, registration could start later than 3pm but we’d only know on the day.

There are 3 leagues in the 2v2 tournament, Men, Women and Mixed. Maximum number of teams per league is 18.  Each player can only enter one league. The two players in each team must be available to play their preliminary rounds at registration, this is to prevent any unnecessary waiting time for the other players in the league and the tournament from being over-run.

The 2v2 is a knock out tournament in a trianglular format, where each player plays 2 matches and referees one match.  Each match is one set to 21 points. The best pair from the triangular proceeds to the next round. Each team must be prepared to play the semi-finals around 8am on Sunday morning if they get through, though we may run the semi’s after the preliminary rounds on Saturday if time allowed.  The 2v2 finals will be run after the 6v6 tournament on Sunday, providing a great end of our volleyball event.

There will be limited spaces and pre-registration is not possible. Registration start when the 6-a-side matches on Saturday begin to finish.  £10 per pair, to be paid at registration.
Play will be as per FIVB Beach Volleyball Rules. The pairs tournament will be run in pools of 3 teams, with all teams playing a minimum of 2 games. The format will involve either two divisions or a Cup/Plate competition, guaranteeing the same number of matches as a double-elimination. Further details on matches will be available on the day.
o   The first rounds are played on Saturday, after the completion of the pool stage of the 6-a-side tournament, at approximately 4pm.
o   Knockout rounds are completed on Sunday morning 8am, before the main 6v6 tournament.
o   The finals are held after the 6-a-side play has ended on Sunday, approx. 3pm.

Junior Volleyball

Junior volleyball play / coaching will be available from 2.30pm – 3.30pm on Saturday. Please show up at the tournament desk for some volleyball fun.

Weather

The tournament will go ahead in most weather conditions; however, we reserve the right to cancel the tournament should it become too slippery or dangerous to play.

In the event of rain / heavy showers

well, we are in England after all…

Teams affected will need to decide whether to carry on competing in the rain or resume when playing conditions improve, without delaying the playing schedule overly.

The final decision will lie with the Tournament organisers who may also change the schedule if necessary.
